Halloween is just around the corner, and what better way to celebrate than with a fun and engaging sensory activity? This “Witch’s Brew” sensory experience is perfect for kids of all ages, providing a mix of creativity, imagination, and a little bit of spooky fun!
What You’ll Need
Supplies:
- Dish Soap
- Large Mixing Bowl and stand or hand mixer
- Water
- Food Coloring
- Sensory bin or plastic container
- Scoop and Pour Tools: Cups, spoons, or small scoops for adding ingredients. I love this large cauldron from Target and small ones from Amazon.* The skeleton arms are from Dollar Tree and are fun to use to stir the foam. We also love using droppers for some fine motor fun!
- Foaming soap containers (optional)– for extra fine motor practice
Setting Up the Activity
- Create Your Cauldron: If you have a mixing bowl or cauldron, place it in the center of your workspace. This will be the focal point for your witch’s brew.
- Mix the Foam Soap:
- Pour a generous amount of soap into a mixing bowl and add water and several drops of food coloring.
- Mix on high until foam appears and foam is at top of the bowl.
- Pour into cauldron or mixing bowl.
- Add the Extras: Let the kids pour in glitter, toss in plastic creatures, or add colored ice cubes. Encourage them to mix the ingredients together with their hands or spoons. The sensory experience of the foam soap combined with the other elements will create a magical concoction!
Sensory Play Ideas
- Texture Exploration: Have kids describe the feeling of the foam soap—smooth, bubbly, and squishy. You can introduce comparisons to other textures they might know (like whipped cream or slime).
- Creative Storytelling: Encourage kids to create a story about their witch’s brew. Who brewed it? What magical powers does it hold? What happens when someone drinks it?
- Science Twist: For a little educational element, explain how foam soap works. Discuss the properties of bubbles and how they form!
Clean-Up Made Easy
One of the best parts of this activity is that clean-up is a breeze! Foam soap is easy to wash off surfaces and hands. Just make sure to have towels handy for drying off after the fun.
So gather your materials, invite your little witches and wizards, and let the potion-making begin! Happy Halloween! 🎃✨
