Dot worksheets are great to use to strengthen fine motor skills in young children! Here are some different ways in which to use them in your home or classroom.
All of the worksheets on this post can be found HERE!
Dot Markers
Of course, a favorite way to use dot worksheets is with dot markers! These activities strengthen the child’s hand muscles and hand-eye coordination. Dot markers come in many different colors and are so much fun to use! Some of my favorites can be found HERE!
How fun are these ice cream flavor dot markers?!
You can also make dot “markers” by putting a craft pom in a clothespin and dipping it in paint!
Stickers
Another fun way to use dot marker worksheets is with stickers! You can find a variety of different stickers to use with them including dots, hearts, stars, etc.! I love matching up the stickers with the theme as well. For instance, around Valentine’s Day, I love using heart stickers with dot worksheets. Stickers also help with the pincer grasp as well.
Small Objects
Small objects, or manipulatives, can be used with dot worksheets to help strengthen fine motor skills. Some fun ones to use are:
- mini erasers
- craft pom balls
- acrylic table scatters
- cereals
- candies
- natural objects like acorns and rocks
- dry beans and lentils
- small marshmallows
- counters: cubes, circle counters, shape counters
*Make sure that the child is old enough to do these activities without putting non-food objects in their mouths.
Stamps
Use fun stamps to fill in each dot on the worksheets!
Finger Painting
Get out the paint or ink pads and fill each dot worksheet with fingerprints! This activity is excellent for fine motor skills as it improves hand-eye coordination and isolates the pointer finger.
Dry Erase Writing
Laminate the dot worksheets and use dry-erase markers to fill in the dots or write letters, numbers, or shapes in each dot.
