“Chicka Chicka Boom Boom” by Bill Martin Jr. and John Archambault is a beloved classic that brings the alphabet to life with its rhythmic text and vibrant illustrations. We love reading this book in my classroom and doing activities along with the book. Here are some fun crafts and activities to extend the fun and learning from the book into your preschool classroom:
Dot Marker Coconut Tree Bulletin Board Paper Activity
This is such a fun group activity! I projected tree clipart on a screen and traced it, then went over it with black marker. Then gave my students green and brown dot markers. They had so much fun working together to dot the whole tree. After we were done, we let it dry and displayed it in the classroom. As we learn about each letter we will put that letter on the tree. By the end of the year the tree will be full of letters!
Coconut Tree Sticker Name Craft
My class loves putting their names on the coconut tree with letter stickers! I used THIS TEMPLATE from Lakeshore Learning for the coconut tree and found these cute alphabet stickers for the names. For younger children or ones that need extra support, I wrote the letters of their name on the tree and had them match up the letters.
Inflatable Coconut Tree Letter Matching
We had so much fun put letters on this inflatable coconut tree! I laminate these letters and put velcro on the back and on the tree. My students loved putting them on and taking them off of the tree!
FREE DOT LETTERS!
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Hat Craft
You can easily make this Chicka Chicka Boom Boom hat craft! Use green construction paper for the leaves and brown paper strips for the hat. Have your child or students put letter stickers on the leaves and then attach it to the brown strip. Fit the brown strip to the child’s head and staple it together. I printed out a colorful Chicka Chicka Boom Boom! label for the front.
